I would say that 95% of the leadwork I have come across has been to a standard I would say only 5 year old would be happy with!!!

I really do not see the point in putting in leadwork then basically cutting it up to fit it and then smothering it in silicone to make it weathertight.

This is definitely one of the areas you need to spend the money and get the correct tradesman in and get it done correctly.

PAY THE MONEY TO GET IT DONE ONCE AND CORRECTLY!!!!!

Roof repair

Firstly any roof can be repaired but common sense has got to be used to decide at what point you are basically throwing money away.

It should be considered how much damage the building is taking and it is not just the visible damage but the unseen damage that may only show its true colours when it has rotted everything behind the visible wall/ceiling.

Fault diagnosis brings into use common sense, experience and good technical skills. Common sense would be if you can see a hole in your roof and you have water leaking in at that point then this is the problem, experience comes into play for the not so obvious leaks. And you need the technical skills to apply the solution your experience and common sense has given you.

And I would believe a little bit of luck is also handy because we all like to massage our ego by solving these problems first time every time.

Slate roofing -- Gimme some more please.

It has now been approx. 18 months since I last nailed a slate on a roof!!

When you consider I spent 20+ years of 'slating' in the UK it is quite a long time to

not do something that you used to do almost without thinking on a daily basis.

This could be new slate roof, re-using existing slate or even repairs.

But if you asked me this question in the Uk 5 years ago - 'Do you think you will miss slate roofing if you didn't do it any more?' I would have replied - 'Not a chance'

But I can honestly say that now I do!!!!!

I also miss the look of the finish a slate roof gives to a house, to me it just makes a house look like a house?? - I am still getting used to all these metal roofs.

All comments appreciated.

Great time to get work done!!

Although the financial climate is not ideal it does give you the opportunity to get work done at very good rates with many tradesman looking to cover wages only while they wait for the work level to pick up.

So if you have been putting off any jobs maybe now is the time to get them done at a very good rate.

It should also be noted that because of the lack of work many tradesman are re-locating and even emigrating, so keep us working!!- Or we could find ourselves with to few tradesman to cover future work.

All comments appreciated.
